Cardiovascular & clot risk

Simplified PESI (sPESI)

Six-item mortality-risk stratification after pulmonary embolism is diagnosed.

Intended population: Adults with confirmed acute PE; use with hemodynamics, right-ventricular assessment, biomarkers, and feasibility of care.

  • A score of 0 alone does not establish suitability for outpatient treatment. Assess oxygen/analgesia needs, bleeding risk, RV dysfunction, biomarkers, comorbidity, and support.
  • Use after PE diagnosis, not to diagnose or exclude PE. Clinical instability overrides the score.
