Cardiovascular & clot risk

Shock index

Heart rate divided by systolic blood pressure.

Intended population: Adults; a hemodynamic observation requiring clinical context.

  • Thresholds vary by setting and population. Normal values do not exclude hemorrhage, sepsis, or shock.
  • Age, pregnancy, medications such as beta blockers, arrhythmia, pain, and baseline hypertension can alter interpretation. Do not use alone for triage or resuscitation decisions.
