Cardiovascular & clot risk

CHA₂DS₂-VASc

Stroke risk factors in atrial fibrillation, with sex category as a risk modifier.

Intended population: Adults with atrial fibrillation or atrial flutter. Treatment requires clinical and bleeding-risk assessment.

  • Female sex alone is not an indication for anticoagulation. Absolute annual stroke rates vary by cohort and are not estimated here.
  • Do not use this score alone for mechanical heart valves or rheumatic moderate/severe mitral stenosis; those require a separate anticoagulation pathway.
  • Review bleeding risks, contraindications, renal function, interactions, and patient preferences; this calculator does not select or dose medication.
